"Make ready for the Christ whose smile - like lighting - sets free the song of everlasting glory that now sleeps in your paper flesh like dynamite."
- Thomas Merton
Our church is a mainline, downtown church with a diverse, inclusive worshipping community and that’s exactly how we like it!
We are attempting to be a church with a surprising Christian imagination because the term “Christian” has so much theological, historic, and cultural baggage. We’d like to change the narrative of what it means to be a Christian, even if it’s just for you and your family. We encourage you to set aside your preconceived notions of “Christian”, or even “Baptist”, and at least give us a chance to model a humble, compassionate, curious kind of Christianity!
Our heart is to be a church where, honestly, our sorrow, confusion and brokenness is just the air we breathe. We don’t believe following Jesus fixes all our problems or clears up all our questions about the Bible or about God. But we do believe that pressing into our pain and into all our honest questions is better attempted together. In fact, that’s what we think church is about – moving together toward Jesus in the messiness of life for the good of others.
So, if you’d like to be a part of a community of faith that leaves a lot of room for tough questions and great concern for the pain this is all around us, then FBC Pittsfield might just be a good place for you to begin.
We invite you to join us for Sunday worship, perhaps attend one of our book clubs, or join one of our service teams. As you get to know us better, you’ll realize that we are just as imperfect as you; but we also hope that you’ll recognize our genuine devotion to Jesus, humility before God and all-inclusive love for our neighbors!
So, see you Sunday and may you be surprised by what God is doing in our lovely, imperfect church!
